From poor colon health to cancer
Research suggests that when your gut function is altered, it may increase the risk for developing certain chronic intestinal/gut disorders such as colon cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. If you think you have any of the disorders or conditions mentioned above, you should contact your physician immediately.

Many researchers also believe that interactions between diet, the intestinal microflora and the cells in the lining of the colon are important in the development of colon cancer. Unfavorable changes in the gut microflora, sometimes caused by changes in the diet, unhealthy lifestyle and stress, may increase the risk of developing colon cancer.

Colon cancer affects both men and women of all races or ethnic groups, and it is most likely to be found in people aged 50 years or older. For men, colon cancer is the third most common cancer after prostate and lung cancers. For women, colon cancer is also the third most common cancer after breast and lung cancers.

Although colon cancer is more commonly found in older people, recent studies done by the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons found that colorectal cancer is the top killer cancer among Malaysian men, some of whom were as young as 16 years old!
